To be the first on the scene to help people |

EMTs are considered “first responders.” This means that when an emergency call goes out, they are among the first on the scene to help injured people. Every day, they're on the front-lines of car accidents, fires, and other emergencies working fast to save lives.
Those first minutes on the scene can often mean the difference between life and death for people, and EMTs are there to make sure it means life.

To get into the healthcare field quicker |

It is relatively easy to get into a career as an EMT. If you know you want to get into the healthcare field but don't want to, or can't, spend seven years to get your doctor's license, working as an EMT could be a good choice for you. Like doctors and nurses, you get to work hands-on with patients during every shift, but you get to do it much sooner. Depending on your state's guidelines, you can become a basic EMT in as little as a month of coursework.

Because I admire what EMTs do |

Many people admire EMTs, and even call them heroes. Every day they are the people going into emergencies and disasters when everyone else is trying to go out. When an area is considered unsafe, they are still there with the injured, doing whatever they can to help and make sure the injured people get to safety and get the medical help they need. The work EMTs do, even putting their lives at risk for others, is admirable. And to work as an EMT is to count yourself among those who do something bigger than themselves every day.
A career as an EMT is not always glamorous, but it is work that does a lot of good for a lot of people. Lives are saved, and quickly, and it is very rewarding. If you're considering a career in the medical field but don't know exactly what you want to do, consider a career as an EMT. You could be one of the people on the front line of an accident, working to save lives.
